Faurecia to set up an automotive equipment plant in Kansas City

Faurecia, a global leader for manufacturing automotive seating, interior systems and clean mobility, is going to set up a $60M manufacturing facility on a 25 acre land near NE 20th street on the north side of Interstate 70 in Blue Springs.

Kansas City: Home to large-scale automotive manufacturing operations

Kansas City, which is home to around 2.5 million people, believes that this new ambitious project from Faurecia is going to generate 300 new jobs. “Kansas City offers a strong competitive advantage to growing manufacturing operations, particularly in the automotive industry," said Tim Cowden, President and CEO, Kansas City Area Development Council. “Kansas City is an attractive location for manufacturers because of the region’s competitive transportation costs, reducing production expenses, as well as for our skilled workforce and the central U.S. location,” commented Chris Gutierrez, the President of KC SmartPort, a non-profit economic development organization affiliated with Kansas City Area Development Council that promotes and enhances the Kansas City region’s status as a leading North American logistics hub.

Faurecia joins a band of other major players like General Motors and Ford in the Kansas City region and hence is considered as an important automotive centre in the US.

Faurecia: Devising breakthrough technologies for future mobility

With the current existence of 330 sites including 30 R&D centres, 100,000 employees in 34 countries, Faurecia is looking forward to setting up the plant to manufacture and assemble door and instrument panels using the latest technologies. The company chose the Kansas City region for its new location because of its proximity to its customers and a skilled workforce that is familiar with the manufacturing and automotive industry.

“Faurecia is proud to open this new site and to provide new opportunities for local job seekers,” said Donald Hampton, Jr., president of Faurecia Interiors in North America. “The Kansas City metro and the Blue Springs area are known for being a source of excellence in American manufacturing and we’re looking forward to building on that expertise and skill set as we continue to provide the very best to our customers.”

In North America, Faurecia had sales of $5.78 billion in 2016 and employed approximately 20,000 people at 47 locations in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
