Italian component major Dellorto today signed an agreement with Energica Motor, a leading manufacturer of high-performance electric motorcycles and the single manufacturer of e-bikes for the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, for a three-year period (2019-2021) to develop and produce dedicated 'Power Units' (powertrains) for small and medium-sized electric motorcycles.

Italian component major Dellorto today signed an agreement with Energica Motor, a leading manufacturer of high-performance electric motorcycles and the single manufacturer of e-bikes for the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, for a three-year period (2019-2021) to develop and produce dedicated 'Power Units' (powertrains) for small and medium-sized electric motorcycles.
Dellorto and Energica Motor say they will continue development and expansion in the mentioned segments (small and medium electric motorcycles), which they expect to grow significantly in the upcoming years. The partners say that the small- and medium-size EV market is estimated to be over one million vehicles per year and growing strong. In fact, they say that in the first quarter of 2019 in Europe alone sales grew by 79 percent.
According to the companies, this project has the ambitious goal of offering technologically-advanced solutions to the major manufacturers operating in the two-wheeler market, by combining Energica unique know-how in the electric motorisation with Dellorto’s design skills in injection systems, as well as their production and commercial reach in Europe, China and India.
The agreement provides with the joint development of an innovative system, based on the know-how of the two companies and a 50 percent revenue sharing model on its production. Both companies have mutual commitments in the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, the electric motorcycles global competition which got underway July 7, 2018.
Work on power units underway
Commenting on the pact, Livia Cevolini, CEO of Energica Motor Company, said: “Thanks to the know-how acquired and recognised internationally, Energica aims to start the development of this motorisation, expanding our offer with a large volumes segment with high potential growth in the world. Our teams are already working on new solutions to meet the new market demands.”

Dellorto, a leading global supplier in the power systems field dedicated to two- and four-wheelers, has engaged in 85 years of research, production and distribution of automotive power systems.
In 2018, the company reported a turnover of 100 million euros (Rs 772 crore). Its clientele in the two-wheeler space include Piaggio, BMW , KTM, Peugeot and Kymco Sym and FCA, General Motors, PSA, BMW, Renault, Volvo and Mahindra & Mahindra in the four-wheeler market.
