Distractions and alcohol pose danger to young drivers in Europe

In Europe, 18- to 24-year-olds account for 8 percent of the total population, but 15 percent of all those killed in road accidents. Risky behaviour has been identified as a key factor behind the statistics.

Research shows that worldwide, car crashes are the leading cause of death among young people, with a higher proportion of 18- to 24-year-olds dying on the roads than at any other time of year.

This finding comes from the World Health Organisation’s Global Status Report On Road Safety 2015.
