As an official sponsor of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, global automotive supplier Continental is equipping all 32 team buses and the transfer buses with premium bus tyres. All the World Cup buses are fitted with the 275/80 R 22.5 version of the ContiGol Urbano.

The ContiGol Urbano tyre was specially designed to meet the requirements of urban traffic in Brazil, like stopping and needing to adapt the speed quite often. The company says its new rubber compound offers a 30 percent improvement in mileage compared to its predecessor. The ContiGol’s AirKeep technology keeps the tyre air pressure at an optimal level up to 50 percent longer compared to conventional technologies due to the use of a denser molecular structure in the liner. This leads to less deformations as well as better driving characteristics.

The name is not the only clue that the ContiGol Urbano is a World Cup tyre; its sidewall has also been specially designed with stylised footballs, the FIFA World Cup logo and Continental’s vulcanised yellow logo.

“As an official sponsor to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, we feel responsible for the safety of the world’s best footballers and our own guests. Therefore, we are aiming to live up to this great responsibility in Brazil too, because our products forge the only link between the buses and the road,” said Alexander Bahlmann, head of PR, Passenger & Light Truck Tires.”

Production of the ContiGol Urbano began at the Continental tyre plant in Camaçari, Bahia, Brazil in the first quarter of 2014. Two sizes – 275/80 R 22.5 and 295/80 R 22.5 – are being manufactured, destined for the markets of Brazil, Ecuador, Columbia and Venezuela.
