The Citroen C3 hatchback, launched in India in July 2022at Rs 571,000, has won the World Urban Car of the Year title at the World Car Awards 2023 announced yesterday. The small Citroen beat the other two finalists, Volkswagen Taigo/Nivus and the ORA Funky Cat/Haomao to take the title.

The Citroen C3 hatchback, launched in India in July 2022at Rs 571,000, has won the World Urban Car of the Year title at the World Car Awards 2023 announced yesterday. The small Citroen beat the other two finalists, Volkswagen Taigo/Nivus and the ORA Funky Cat/Haomao to take the title.
"We are particularly honoured to receive this ‘2023 World Urban Car’ award for the C3. In addition to the commercial success of this model, it recognises the relevance of our growth strategy in India, Asia and South America. As the first model in a family of three cars, the Citroen C3 combines strong, modern styling with a high level of comfort, not to mention the connectivity and technology that customers in these regions expect," said Thierry Koskas, Citroen's CEO.
Vehicles eligible for the World Urban Car award must be produced in volumes of at least 5,000 units/year and must be ‘on-sale’ in at least two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, USA) on at least two separate continents within the period January 1, 2022 and March 30, 2023. Also, vehicles must be a maximum of 4.25 metres in overall length and be approved for operation on public roads.
Citroen India has sold a total of 6,798 C3s and eC3s (the electric variant of the C23 was launched on February 27, 2023) in the domestic market since the C3 was introduced in India. The hatchback will also be a key driver of the company’s exports. On March 31, 2023, the first batch of made-in-India C3 hatchbacks was exported to ASEAN and Africa from the Kamarajar Port.
