Brembo’s Bybre brand launches new combined brake system for two-wheelers

Bybre, Brembo's brand developed specifically for brake systems of small and medium displacement scooters and motorcycles, has introduced a new combined braking system. It improves rider safety by allowing the optimum use of the brakes and reducing safe stopping distances – even for the novice user.

The system consists of a floating front caliper with three 24mm diameter pistons. The central piston is actuated by a 14mm diameter rear master cylinder with integrated tank, while the two outside pistons are driven by a 12mm diameter handlebar-mounted front master cylinder.

A special valve positioned between the rear master cylinder and the front caliper determines the pressure distribution between the front and rear calipers. It ensures that when the brake pedal is operated the rear wheel will always lock-up before the front and provides much better performance than a standard brake system. This is an important safety feature, especially for novice riders reluctant to use the front brake fully on slippery road surfaces. This type of system will become mandatory on all scooters and bikes up to 125cc under new EU regulations that come into effect in 2016.

Bybre was launched in India in 2010, specifically to meet the mass market needs of motorcycles and scooters under 600cc. Beside a complete range of floating caliper and front and rear master cylinders, the most recent components are the four-piston fix caliper developed for Bajaj Auto motorcycles, for use on the KTM 125 Duke built in collaboration with KTM and the three-piston two circuit floating caliper developed for Hero MotoCorp and utilised on the new combined braking system.

The development of Bybre from a producer of single components into a full system supplier demonstrates a growing appreciation of Brembo's technical excellence amongst producers of smaller capacity machines as well as makes of larger sports-orientated bikes.
