With over 175,000 KTS-series diagnostic testers sold worldwide since it was launched in the 1980s, and around 60,000 workshops throughout Europe using ESI[tronic], Bosch is celebrating this milestone.
In the ’80s, the launch of the KTS 300 – the first tool that could be used to diagnose more than one make of car – heralded the start of a new era in the servicing and repair of vehicles.
Underpinned by the company’s ESI[tronic] software, the German component supplier’s advances have led the industry as mechanics have become technicians and have embraced electronic diagnostic tools. Designed as a comprehensive knowledge platform for technicians, ESI[tronic] provides detailed information and support that reflects the evolution, as electronics have played an increasing role in the development of vehicles. Today it is almost impossible for a workshop to service or repair a vehicle without the best diagnostic equipment.
Bosch’s development work and its global network of dedicated Data Engineering Centres (DECs) provide constant updates; ensuring workshops always have the latest data and the widest possible vehicle coverage at their fingertips.
The original KTS unit, known as the ‘Bosch hammer’ (thanks to its distinctive shape), was the first unit to communicate with multiple makes of vehicle. Today, the company embraces the All Make concept as ESI[tronic] 2.0 software can be used in conjunction with more than 180 vehicle brands and over 90,000 models from around the world.
Designed and produced in Germany, Bosch’s KTS-series diagnostic testers receive continuous development and updates, along with enhanced technical documentation and a comprehensive training programme.
This provides technicians, garages and workshops with a simple, one-stop solution, providing all the knowledge, support and training required to get the best from their investment. The company says it provides everything from training to remote support from a Bosch expert technician, thereby ensuring the KTS range remains an excellent, future-proof investment.
KTS equipment today
The current KTS range has the perfect system for any size or type of workshop, depending on its needs. From handheld through to fully integrated systems, the KTS range covers all aspects of diagnostics.
The KTS 540 and 570 offer workshops a module which turns its PC/laptop into a full diagnostic machine. The KTS 570 comes with the addition of a 2-channel multi-meter and 2-channel scope. Both the KTS 540 and 570 come with a Bluetooth USB stick which will work up to a distance of 100m, so the technician is not limited by the logistics of their workshop.
Both these modules come with a built-in and exchangeable multiplexer (automatic pin selection), which means there is no need to buy a new unit when a car manufacturer decides to introduce a new system protocol – the user has to only exchange the multiplexer. The KTS-series together with ESI[tronic] offers fully comprehensive support to the user, such as ECU diagnosis, guided troubleshooting and repair instructions, wiring diagrams for convenience systems / body electrics, service and maintenance information, known fixes and service bulletins and a parts catalogue.
