In wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM), a wire made of aluminium or similar is melted using an arc.
With WAAM, metallic vehicle components can be lighter and more rigid than comparable die-cast parts currently manufactured in series production.
WAAM technology: technical drawing, suspension strut support.
In the future, the plan is to use components manufactured using the WAAM process in BMW Group production vehicles.
