Bentley has revealed two new cars and a one-off model at the Beijing motor show.
The first car, the limited-run Mulsanne First Edition, makes its world debut, while the second, the new Flying Spur V8 S, has been shown to the Chinese public for the first time. The third car is a one-off Bentayga that’s been created to demonstrate the craftsmanship of Bentley’s workforce.
Muslanne First Edition
Just 50 First Edition Mulsannes will be built, each receiving unique detailing and features and extra standard kit. The trim level can be applied to any of the Mulsanne models, including the Mulsanne Speed and Extended Wheelbase.
On the bonnet of each First Edition Mulsanne is a bespoke engraved Flying B ornament, while inside, First Edition motifs are positioned throughout the cabin and there’s Union Jack embroidery on the seats.Included as standard with all First Editions is a Mulliner sterling silver vanity kit, created by Asprey of London and housed within the car’s rear picnic table. The set includes a vanity mirror, hairbrush and comb. Buyers can also add an optional champagne cooler.
Bentley hasn’t revealed pricing for its latest Mulsanne yet – the model was facelifted earlier this year – but it’s expected to slightly increase on the outgoing car’s £229,360/Rs 2.20 crore starting price. A similar increase is expected with the Mulsanne Speed, which was priced from £252,000/Rs 2.42 crore.
First Edition models are likely to command a significant premium on those numbers, however. The First Edition version of the Bentayga SUV costs about £70,000/Rs 67.33 lakh more than the standard car. This suggests the cheapest First Edition car could be priced from close to £300,000/Rs 2.89 crore.
Flying Spur V8 S
We’ve already seen the Flying Spur V8 in Europe, when it was shown at the Geneva motor show in March, but this is the first time the Chinese public has seen Bentley’s new 521bhp saloon.
Powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre engine, the V8 S has 21bhp more than the regular V8, with torque peaking at 502lb ft. This enables the luxury saloon to accelerate from 0-100kph in 4.6sec and on to a top speed of 190mph/304kph.
Bentayga by Mulliner
Bentley’s bespoke coachbuilding arm Mulliner has created a one-off Bentayga to demonstrate what can be done with handcrafted veneer.
The car features 30 individual pieces made from 10 different veneers, shaped to form a detailed moutainscape picture. Bentley says the Beijing Bentayga shows just how limitless the design possibilities are when Mulliner works on its vehicles.
