The new Swift, which is built on Suzuki’s fifth-generation B-platform (HEARTECT), which sees extensive use of ultra-high tensile and high-tensile steels for structural rigidity and weight reduction, managed a maximum of 4 stars for the variant with the optional safety pack, which adds on Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) to the six airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX, present as the standard safety kit on the Euro-spec model.
AEB ups the score (44%) of the safety assistive technologies on board by 19 percent from the standard trim. Pedestrian safety score stands at 69 percent and child occupant safety score has been reported to be at 75 percent.
The two variants were subject to frontal offset crash test, done at 64kph, and the findings reported the car’s structural integrity to be intact during such an impact. The cabin of the new Swift is also shielded well for side impacts and performed good in the side pole impact and side barrier tests performed.
In India, the third-generation Swift is slated for launch early next year at the 2018 Auto Expo, to be held in February. The Indian version of the car is expected to be different in terms of the safety kit on offer, and would most likely make do with dual airbags, ABS and EBD and ISOFIX.
