Decision makers from the industry, workshops and the trade are meeting at the world’s biggest trade fair for the automotive sector from 16 to 20 September.
Occupying around 305,000 square metres of exhibition space (gross), 4,631 exhibitors from 71 countries (2012: 4,597 from 74 countries) including a strong exhibitor contingent from ACMA from India (Hall 6.2) presenting their products and services from the entire automobile value chain.
“With a record 4,631 exhibitors, Automechanika continues to extend its lead as the world’s most successful international B2B trade-fair brand”, says Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt GmbH.
Automechanika Frankfurt 2014 reflects the enormous dynamism of the automotive aftermarket, a situation that economists say is likely to continue to the end of the year. “The growing variety of models and ever more complex technologies have led to a larger number of players in the market and an increasing number of spare parts”, says Detlef Braun. In this connection, he explains that, “The background to Automechanika Frankfurt is a worldwide turnover by German parts and accessories manufacturers (net) amounting to € 101 billion in 2013. Around 15 percent of this is earned outside Germany. The trend for 2014 is also in the direction of growth between 3 and 4 percent. € 43 billion is generated by the downstream trade in automobile parts and accessories; another € 19 billion by automobile repairs.”
The 23rd edition of Automechanika Frankfurt is once again the showcase for tomorrow’s aftersales ideas. The fair has been honouring innovative products with the Automechanika Innovation Awards since 1997. This year, the presentations were made during the opening ceremony, chosen from 120 entries received for the 2014 Innovation Awards, 66 from Germany and 54 from abroad.
This year, the special award given for the best entry in the Automechanika Green Directory, the guide for visitors to especially sustainable and resource-friendly products at the fair, goes to Robert Bosch GmbH. Bosch applied for inclusion in the directory with its exchange-part production facility for electronic automobile components and received the highest score in the assessment carried out by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI.
Alternative powertrains in Hall 10
The latest developments in the electronics field can also be found under the motto ‘Mobility of the Future’ in Hall 10 where exhibitors from 12 countries are showing a broad spectrum of alternative powertrains, from hybrid and electric to LPG and natural gas. Besides charging infrastructure, charging management and plug and cable systems, the participants offer insights into the latest developments in the fields of motors, electronics, lightweight construction, storage technologies, battery management, energy supply, financing, basic and advanced training, repairs and service. Companies report on successful projects, many of which came about via good networking with universities, research institutes, other industrial partners, etc.
