New Honda Amaze aims to revitalise the compact-sedan segment with a high-on technology offering that emphasises safety. It gets Honda's vision-based Level-2 ADAS suite, improved bi-projector LED headlights, and a connected car package for an added layer of vehicle safety.
Overall width has increased by 38mm to liberate more shoulder room, but boot space marginally reduced to 416 litres.
Third-generation Honda Amaze retains its 2,470mm wheelbase and 3,995mm length. The new model gets a bold character line emanating from the front fender and culminating in the rear quarter panel. Machine-finished, multi-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels lend a subtle touch.
The third-gen Honda Amaze gets an all-new dual-tone dashboard design with a floating 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit at its centre. An automatic AC control panel with toggle switches, wireless phone charger, knitted fabric on door pads are key cabin highlights.
Rear bench gets three-point seatbelts for all passengers, while all three rear occupants get fixed-type headrests. Honda claims to have optimised cabin packaging with 12mm better headroom, 70mm more legroom than the chief competitor. Sunroof, however, amiss on the new Amaze.
Alongside active-safety tech in the form of ADAS, passive safety is a big talking point on the new Amaze which now features six airbags as standard. Honda claims using up to 46% advanced high-strength steel in BIW which has been engineered to withstand higher-than-regulated crash tests.
A 5-speed manual transmission offered standard on the new Amaze, which is the only car in its segment to offer a 7-step CVT option compared to AMT offerings from rivals. An E20-fuel compliant, 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, i-VTEC engine powers the new Amaze but misses out on idle start-stop technology.
The digital screen also shows vital vehicle information including seat-belt reminders, ADAS notifications.
New Honda Amaze gets a semi-digital 7-inch TFT instrument cluster from the Honda City. While the tachometer is displayed in the digital screen on the left side, the speedometer is an analogue unit.
High-quality audio and telephony buttons mounted on the left-hand side of the steering wheel which is only a polyurethane unit devoid of leather wrapping. A dedicated 'Mute' button for audio is also missing on the new Amaze.
Buttons mounted on the right-hand side of the steering wheel undertake ADAS functionalities such as activation of Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Keep Assist, and Lane-Departure Warning. A Collision Mitigation Braking System that applies brakes autonomously remains active by default on vehicle start up
New Honda Amaze gets rear-end styling cues from the bigger Honda City sedan. The car gets a pair of wraparound tail lights with a distinct LED signature.
Third-generation Honda Amaze gets 37 connected car features by virtue of vehicle telematics powered by MapmyIndia. Remote engine start-stop functionality, geo-fencing, and live vehicle tracking are some of the convenience and safety features on offer.
