Record scooter sales power TVS to best-ever 3.51 million two-wheelers in FY2025

TVS Motor Co has had a stellar fiscal in FY2025. The Chennai-based manufacturer of scooters, motorcycles and mopeds sold a total of 35,19,225 or 3.51 million two-wheelers in FY2025, up 11% (FY2024: 3.15 million units). This total comprises 1.81 million scooters (up 25% YoY), 1.20 million motorcycles (down 2% YoY) and 501,813 mopeds (up 4% YoY). The 3.51 million two-wheelers make FY2025 the best-ever fiscal year for the company, beating the previous best of 3.15 million units in FY2024.

With this strong performance, FY2025 has become the best-ever fiscal year for TVS, with the company selling an additional 362,175 units over FY2024 which was its previous best. Similar to FY2024, the strong growth in scooters have powered overall numbers (see 10-year wholesales data table below)

The 3.51 million two-wheelers make FY2025 the best-ever fiscal year for the company, beating the previous best of 3.15 million units in FY2024. Record scooter sales of 1.81 million units (up 25%) powered overall 2W sales.

While combined sales of the Jupiter, NTorq 125 and Zest at 15,40,040 units rose 22%, the electric iQube's sales jumped 44% to a record 273,063 units.

Best-ever fiscal – FY2025

Scooters have been the standout segment for the company last fiscal. TVS Motor Co, which has the petrol-engined Jupiter, NTorq and Zest and the electric iQube in its scooter stable, sold a total of 1.81 million scooters, up 25% YoY (FY2024: 1.45 million units).

This is its highest-ever scooter sales in a fiscal and gives it a 26% market share, thereby contributing strongly to the record 68,53,214 sales for the domestic scooter industry in India in FY2025. While the three petrol-engined scooters sold 15,40,040 units, up 22% YoY, the TVS iQube electric scooter with 273,063 units has clocked 44% YoY growth (FY2024: 189,896 iQubes).

With 446,218 units, Apache bikes clocked 18% growth and were the best-selling bikes for TVS, ahead of the No. 1 bike in FY2024: Raider 125.

MOTORCYCLES: 12,04,309 units, down 2%
Best-ever fiscal – FY2024: 12,23,838 bikes

TVS sold
1.20 million motorcycles (down 2% YoY), selling 19,529 fewer bikes than in FY2024’s whose 12,23,838 units are its highest bike sales yet.

In the entry-level 110cc segment, combined sales of the three TVS bikes (Radeon, Sport, Star City Plus) at 320,033 units were down 7% (FY2024: 343,690 units). In the segment above, the Raider 125, which was TVS’ No. 1 motorcycle in FY2024, witnessed a sharp decline in sales – the 399,819 units were down by 16% YoY (FY2024: 478,443 units).

While demand for the premium 225cc Ronin was strong with sales of 33,977 units, up 90% on year-ago sales of 17,838 units, demand for the 310 series bikes fell sharply by 26% at 4,262 units (FY2024: 5,795 units).

The company’s overall motorcycle market performance would have witnessed a higher rate of sales decline than 2% if it weren’t for the Apache series’ robust sales. The TVS Apache brand (in the 150-200cc category) comprises four models of the Apache RTR Series – RTR 160, RTR 160 4V, RTR 180 and RTR 200, as also the 310 series. With total wholesales of 446,218 units, Apache bikes have clocked strong 18% YoY growth (FY2024: 378,072 units).

In FY2025, sales of the TVS XL100 crossed the half-a-million mark at 501,813 units – 20,010 units more than in FY2024.

MOPEDS: 501,813 UNITS, up 4%
Best-ever fiscal – FY2017: 890,367 units

TVS continues to witness a good contribution to its overall two-wheeler sales from the humble moped – the product at the lowest end of the two-wheeler pyramid. In FY2025, sales of the TVS XL100 crossed the half-a-million mark at 501,813 units – 20,010 units more than in FY2024.

Moped sales in India and for TVS had hit their highest level in FY2017 (890,518 units, up 23% YoY) and in FY2019 (880,234 units, up 2%). However, with consumers shifting loyalty to gearless scooters (like the TVS Jupiter launched in FY2014 and the company’s first 125cc scooter (NTorq) in FY2018 as also a clutch of rider-friendly bikes, the decline in moped sales had begun.

What keeps the moped mantra ticking for TVS is the small two-wheeler’s affordability quotient, good mileage, and high level of reliability as a carrier of household goods, dairy and agricultural produce for small traders, particularly in rural India. Most of the moped demand is understood to generate from South India, Gujarat and regions of Madhya Pradesh.
