Ola takes early lead in April, sells 4,294 electric two-wheelers in Week 1

Ola Electric takes a 21% share of the 20,201 electric two-wheelers sold in India between April 1 and 7. While TVS Motor Co, with 4,291 units, is just three e-scooters behind Ola, Ather Energy has risen into third position with 3,450 units and ahead of Bajaj Auto which has sold 3,441 units.

Ola takes early lead in April, sells 4,294 electric two-wheelers in Week 1

FY2026 has opened as has April 2025. Between April 1 and 7, a total of 20,201 electric scooters, motorcycles and mopeds have been sold in India, as per the latest retail sales stats available on the Vahan portal. Ola Electric has taken an early lead in the month with sale of 4,294 units, three EVs ahead of TVS Motor Co.

With 4,294 units sold between April 1 and 7, Ola Electric has taken an early lead in the first month of the new fiscal year.  

This gives Ola Electric a 21% share of electric two-wheeler sales in April Week 1. The company had wrapped up FY2025 with total retails of 344,009 units, up 4% YoY, and a market share of 30 percent.

TVS Motor Co, with 4,291 iQubes sold in the first seven days of April, is hard on Ola’s heels. TVS, which has been the longstanding No. 2 e-two-wheeler OEM, came very close to being No. 1 in January 2025 but was pipped to the post by Ola by just 542 units. Like Ola, it has a 21% market share in April Week 1. In FY2025, TVS had sold a record 237,576 units, up 30% YoY and had a 21% market share.

Ather Energy, which has been ranked fourth for a very long time on the e-2W ladder board, is currently the No. 3 with 3,450 e-scooters sold and a 17% market share. In FY2025, Ather also hit record retails of 130,945 units, up 20% YoY, for a market share of 11 percent.

Bajaj Auto, the No. 1 e-2W OEM in December 2024February 2025 and March 2025, with 3,441 Chetaks sold in April Week 1, is currently in fourth position, one that it has not seen for quite some time. Like Ola, TVS and Ather, Bajaj Auto also hit its best-ever fiscal year sales in FY2025: 230,808 units, up 116% YoY and a 20% market share.

Hero MotoCorp, the No. 5 in FY2025, is also ranked fifth in the April 1-7 period with 1,014 units. Hero MotoCorp has started scaling up brand presence for its Vida brand of e-scooters and its network now stands at over 200 touchpoints across 116 cities. The company, which has the Vida 1 and Vida 2, plans to expand its portfolio – within the mid- and affordable segment.

Greaves Electric Mobility takes sixth position with retail sales of 910 units. The company has a six-model portfolio of e-scooters comprising the Nexus, Primus, Magnus LT/EX, Ampere Magnus Special, entry level Rio Li/La Plus and Zeal EX. In FY2025, GEM sold 40,161 units, up 28% on its FY2024 sales of 31,276 units for a market share of 3.49 percent.

Bengaluru-based EV start-up River Mobility, which manufactures the Indie e-scooter and has recently seen Japanese two-wheeler major Yamaha Motor invest in the company, has sold 224 units to take eighth rank.

Pur Energy, ranked 10th in the e-2W market in FY2025 with 9,294 units, is in ninth position in April Week 1 with 222 units.

Kinetic Green, whose e-scooter portfolio comprises the E-Zulu, Flex and Zing along with the e-Luna moped, is ranked 10th with 213 units. In FY2025, Kinetic Green had sold 8,452 units.

NEARLY 37,000 EVs SOLD IN FIRST WEEK OF APRIL 2025
As per the retail sales data on the Vahan portal, a total of 36,925 electric vehicles across the two-wheeler, three-wheeler, passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle segments have been sold in India.

The two-wheeler segment with 20,201 units, accounts for the bulk – 55% – of the sales, followed by three-wheelers: 13,665 units and a 37% share of EV sales.

The electric car, SUV and MPV segment has seen 2,915 zero-emission vehicles being delivered to buyers between April 1 and 7, which makes for an 8% share.

Commercial vehicles, with 144 units, have a 0.38% share of all-India EV sales in April Week 1.
