Maruti Nexa sales cross 500,000 for second fiscal in a row, 6 of 8 models see decline in FY2025
In FY2025, Maruti Suzuki's premium Nexa channel sold 543,050 passenger vehicles compared to 561,050 units in FY2024. Of the eight Nexa-branded models, the Fronx compact SUV and the Grand Vitara midsize SUV hit their highest sales and registered YoY growth. However, demand was down for the Baleno, XL6, Ignis, Jimny, Ciaz and the Invicto.
Nexa, Maruti Suzuki India’s premium passenger vehicle brand, has surpassed half-a-million sales for the second fiscal year running. In FY2025, the eight Nexa-branded models sold a total of 543,050 units, down 3% year on year (FY2024: 561,050 units). The Nexa share of Maruti Suzuki’s overall passenger vehicle sales of 17,60,767 units dipped marginally to 31% in FY2025, compared to 32% in FY2024 (see detailed Nexa model sales split table below).
The Baleno, the first Nexa model launched a decade ago, sold 167,161 units in FY2025, just 945 units more than the Baleno-based Fronx compact SUV which saw strong 23% YoY growth.
Nexa’s first model was the now-discontinued S-Cross, launched on August 5, 2015. The current Nexa model line-up comprises eight passenger vehicles – two hatchbacks (Baleno, Ignis), one sedan (Ciaz), four SUVs (Fronx, Grand Vitara, XL6 and Jimny) and one MPV (Invicto).
FY2025 did not see any new Nexa vehicle launch as compared to FY2024 which saw the rollout of the Fronx, Jimny and Invicto. Wholesales stats of the eight Nexa models currently on sale reveal that other than the Fronx compact SUV and the Grand Vitara midsize SUV, all the other six models saw a YoY sales decline.
BALENO PIPS FRONX TO REMAIN BEST-SELLING NEXA MODEL
The stylsh Baleno hatchback, launched in FY2016 and the oldest in the pack, remains the premium PV channel's best-selling product. Over 10 years, this model has sold 1.62 million units and in FY2025, it registered sales of 167,161 units, down 14% YoY (FY2024: 195,607 units). This, however, was enough to pip the Maruti Fronx, for which it is the donor model, to the No. 1 position.
The Baleno-based Fronx compact SUV came very close to being Nexa No. 1 in FY2025 – the Fronx's strong 23% YoY growth meant that its 166,216 units were just 945 units behind the Baleno. In the process, the Fronx’s cumulative sales since its April 2024 launch hit 300,951 units to make it the first Nexa SUV to achieve 300,000 sales.
The Grand Vitara midsize SUV takes third rank in FY2025 with 123,946 units, which is a marginal 2% YoY increase (FY2024: 121,169 units) and just 2,777 units more year on year. The Fronx and the Grand Vitara are the only two models to register growth in FY2025. All the other six Nexa models witnessed their sales decline last fiscal
The XL6 MPV takes fourth position with 37,111 units, down 18% YoY (FY2024: 45,131 units) and is followed by the Ignis hatchback which sold 27,438 units, down 15% YoY (FY2024: 32,463 units).
At No. 6 is the Jimny SUV with 8,740 units, down 48% YoY (FY2024: 17,009 units).
The Ciaz, which is the sole sedan in the Nexa pack, posted sales of 8,402 units, down 19% YoY (FY2024: 10,447 units).
The Invicto MPV, which is produced by Toyota Kirloskar Motor for Maruti Suzuki under the global Suzuki-Toyota alliance, sold 4,036 units in FY2025, down 12% YoY (FY2024: 4,599 units).
The Maruti e Vitara is slated to be launched in May 2025.
NEXA PORTFOLIO TO EXPAND SOON WITH MARUTI E VITARA
The first new Nexa model in two years is to be launched in FY2026 and it is an electric vehicle, which kicks off Maruti Suzuki’s EV journey. Slated to be launched in May 2025, the Maruti e Vitara is the production-spec version of the e-VX concept and gets two battery pack (49kWh and 61kWh) options.
While the entry level e Vitara will get a 144hp motor, the 61 kWh-equipped variant will have a 174hp motor. Maruti Suzuki claims an MIDC range of over 500km (with the 61kWh battery pack) for the e Vitara which targets the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV and the Mahindra BE 6.
