The XUV 3XO, which is the refreshed XUV300, has given a new charge to this compact SUV’s sales. Not only are its sales in the first 10 months of FY2025 up 80% YoY and already its highest in a fiscal but with February-March 2025 numbers yet to be pencilled in, the XUV 3XO will hit 100,000 units in FY2025. In the process, this model’s sales since launch on February 14, 2019, will also surpass 350,000 units.

The Mahindra XUV300, reborn in a new avatar in April 2024 as the XUV 3XO, turns six years old today. Launched on February 14 and Valentine’s Day in 2019, the popular compact SUV has, till end-January 2025, has sold a total of 335,017 units. Thanks to the XUV 3XO, this compact Mahindra SUV’s growth trajectory is currently at its best yet since launch, having sold 85,990 units, up 80% YoY (April 2023-January 2024: 47,672 units).
Not only are the XUV 3XO’s sales in the first 10 months of FY2025 already the highest in a fiscal, having beaten the previous best of 60,968 units of FY2023, but with February-March 2025 sales yet to be pencilled in, they are set to hit the 100,000 sales mark in FY2025. In the process, this model’s cumulative sales since launch will also surpass 350,000 units.
What’s amply clear is that the rollout of the XUV 3XO in end-April 2024 has accelerated sales. Year-on-year, M&M has sold an additional 38,318 units. This compact SUV is currently the second best-selling Mahindra SUV after the Scorpio twins (137,311 units).
That the XUV300 would become another Mahindra high-selling SUV was seen soon after launch seven years ago – the company received 13,000 bookings in the first 28 days. The Mahindra compact SUV went on to hit 200,000 sales in May 2023, 47 months after launch. The 300,000 milestone came up 16 months later in early October 2024. Given the current rapid pace of sales, the 400,000 sales milestone should be achieved in even fewer months. At present, the 3XO is 65,747 units away from that big number and should hit it around August-September 2025.
What is helping accelerate sales for this SUV is the gains coming from M&M’s heightened focus on safety. In mid-November 2024, the XUV 3XO, along with the Thar Roxx and XUV400, aced the Bharat NCAP crash test. These models have now joined Mahindra’s growing portfolio of five-star-rated vehicles, which includes the XUV700 and Scorpio-N.
In FY2024, with 54,726 units, the XUV300 contributed 12% to the company’s dealer dispatches and was among the prime movers that powered M&M to its best-ever fiscal year sales of 459,877 units and also among India’s Top 20 best-selling utility vehicles in FY2024. Last fiscal, the XUV300 was the fifth high-selling Mahindra SUV model in FY2024 after the Scorpio, Bolero, XUV700 and the Thar.
The XUV 3XO, as the refreshed XUV300, has done even better. In FY2025’s first 10 months, with a handsome 80% YoY increase in sales (85,990 units), it accounts for 19% of Mahindra & Mahindra’s record SUV wholesales of 453,019 units, up 20% YoY. This puts in second place in terms of model-wise share after the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic, which have a 30% share, and ahead of the XUV700 (78,763 units, 17% share), Bolero (78,029 units, 17% share) and the Thar-Thar Roxx combine (66,650 units, 15% share).
Since its launch five years ago, the XUV300 has seen one recall – in November 2019, M&M had recalled 16,908 XUV300s manufactured between November 2018 and May 2019 because a suspension component (front knuckle) might have an improper metallurgical condition which can cause it to deform in use.
XUV 3XO: 25 VARIANTS ACROSS PETROL AND DIESEL
This compact SUV with big-SUV traits has 25 variants on sale comprising 15 and 10 diesel. The petrol model’s pricing starts from Rs 860,000 (on-road Delhi) for the base 1.2P MXI variant and goes up to Rs 18.13 lakh for the top-end 1.2P AX7 TGDi AT. The 1.2-litre petrol engine develops maximum power of 111hp and 200 Nm of torque. The performance-oriented variants are powered by a higher-spec, turbocharged gasoline direct injection (TGDi) that develops 131hp of power and 230 Nm of peak torque.
The diesel-engined XUV 3XO is priced from Rs 11.56 lakh (on-road Delhi) for the base 1.5D MX2 variant upwards to Rs 17.93 lakh for the 1.5D AX7L. The 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 117 hp and 300 Nm of torque.
Autocar India’s buyer guide commentary on the XUV 3XO states: “The XUV 3XO builds on the XUV300’s strengths and addresses many of its weaknesses. Styling is polarising but the premium interior, good passenger space and lengthy features list are draws. All engines score well on performance, and rounding off the package are the mature ride and handling, and tough build.”
What puts the XUV 3XO’s robust market performance in proper perspective is that it is part of the extremely competitive compact SUV segment where it rivals the Tata Punch and Nexon, Maruti Brezza and Fronx, Hyundai Venue and Exter, Kia Sonet, sibling Thar, and the Toyota Taisor.
