The Mahindra 3XO, the face-lifted version of its first compact SUV, the XUV300, has turned a year old today. Launched on April 29, 2024, the 3XO with 100,905 units has been one of the star performers for Mahindra & Mahindra in FY2025 which has been the SUV manufacturer’s best-ever fiscal year to date.
The XUV 3XO was conceptualised at the Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai, and engineered and developed at the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) near Chennai.
That the XUV 3XO had the makings of a winner was apparent within minutes of its bookings opening – the stylish compact SUV snapped up over 50,000 bookings in an hour, including 27,000 bookings in the first 10 minutes. That promise proved to be reality in the very competitive segment which is the compact SUV market.

To put into proper perspective as to just how strong the XUV 3XO’s market performance in its first year has been, it helps to compare its sales with its predecessor, the XUV300. In FY2024, with 54,726 units, the XUV300 contributed 12% to M&M’s wholesales and was among the SUVs that powered M&M to its then best-ever fiscal year sales of 459,877 units. The XUV300 was also among India’s Top 20 best-selling utility vehicles in FY2024 and the fifth high-selling Mahindra SUV model in FY2024 after the Scorpio, Bolero, XUV700 and Thar.
The XUV 3XO with 100,905 units was M&M’s second best-selling SUV after the Scorpio N and Classic, and contributed 18% to the company’s record sales of 551,487 units in FY2025.
Cut to FY2025 and the launch of the XUV 3XO early in the fiscal year changed the sales dynamics. The 100,905 XUV 3XOs sold – an additional 46,179 units which were the highest for any Mahindra SUV in FY2025 – constituted stellar year-on-year growth of 84% (FY2024: 54,726 XUV300s). The 3XO was among the SUVs which provided the firepower for M&M’s record sales of 551,487 units in FY2025.
As a result, the XUV 3XO’s share of M&M’s total sales in FY2025 jumped to 18% from 12% a fiscal before (XUV300). That’s not all – this robust performance saw the XUV 3XO become the second best-selling model for Mahindra after the Scorpio twins (164,842 units).
In terms of SUV industry-wide rankings, the 3XO was No. 6 in compact SUVs in FY2025 compared to the XUV300’s ninth position in FY2024. This gave it a 7% of the 13,83,334 or 1.38 million compact SUVs sold in India in FY2025. For the entire utility vehicle industry, the 3XO takes No. 11 rank in FY2025, accounting for 3.60% of the record 2.79 million UVs sold in FY2025.
FY2025 saw plenty of action in the compact SUV segment in the form of new model or new variant launches including the Toyota Taisor, Tata Puch EV and the Kia Sonet facelift. However, it was the Mahindra XUV 3XO which drove away with the Compact SUV of the Year 2025 title.
The XUV 3XO, which is aimed squarely at the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and the two new compact SUVs in town – the Kia Syros and Skoda Kylaq – sports a number of unique design cues and an upmarket interior. The sizeable features list includes a digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof and ADAS.
The 1.2-litre TGDi engine is refined and punchy with class-leading numbers.
On the powertrain front, the 3XO has not one but two 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engines along with a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. There is also now a new six-speed torque converter automatic for the petrol range. There are all of 25 variants on offer comprising 15 petrol and 10 diesel. Pricing for the petrol variants starts from Rs 860,000 for the base 1.2P MX1 to Rs 18.13 lakh for the 1.2 AX7 L TGDI AT. The diesel 3XO’s range starts at Rs 11.56 lakh for the 1.5 MX2 through to Rs 17.93 lakh for the 1.5D AX7 L (all prices on-road, New Delhi).
High-on-safety 3XO aced BNCAP crash test with top 5-star rating
The 3XO aced the Bharat NCAP crash test with an overall 5-star rating, scoring 29.36/32 in Adult Occupant Protection and 43/49 in Child Occupant Protection.
Built with high-strength steel, the XUV 3XO comes with 35 standard safety features. Key safety elements include six airbags, three-point seatbelts for all seats, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a 360-degree surround view system with Blind View Monitor to improve visibility and prevent collisions. XUV 3XO also features Level 2 ADAS, including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keep Assist. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and all-around disc brakes
In November 2024, the XUV 3XO, along with the Thar Roxx and XUV400, aced the Bharat NCAP crash test with a top 5-star rating. It scored 29.36/32 in Adult Occupant Protection and 43/49 in Child Occupant Protection, underscoring the company’s commitment to producing the safest SUVs in the segment.
The feature-laden 3XO ticks nearly all the boxes for the compact SUV buyers. It feels upmarket, sports a roomy cabin, benefits from strong engines along with the tough build and good ride. All this, and the keen pricing, make this young Mahindra a difficult-to-ignore package.
With Mahindra & Mahindra upping the ante in FY2026 also in manufacturing capacity to meet demand for most of its models, expect the XUV 3XO, which was billed by M&M as a 'category disruptor' at launch, to continue firing on all cylinders in the new fiscal year.
