Honda’s Activa scooters continue to outsell Hero’s Splendor brand of commuter motorcycles to start off the new fiscal. Although a year ago, the Activa sales were also higher than the Splendor’s, the gap, in April 2017, has only widened. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has reported total domestic sales of 312,632 units of Activa scooters, up 33.64 percent (April 2016: 233,935).
The Hero Splendor, on the other hand, has sold 226,681 units in April 2017, up 1.09 percent (April 2016: 224,238). The gap between the two top-selling two-wheeler brands has increased from 9,697 units to 85,951 units, almost nine times in the past year.
The Hero HF Deluxe continues to rank No. 3 with sales of 143,794 units in April 2017. The HF Deluxe, which had reported sales of 116,567 units in April 2016, has grown by 23.36 percent YoY.
At No. 4 is Honda CB Shine. Honda’s second largest selling two-wheeler brand sold 100,824 units, possibly crossing the 100,000 unit mark for the first time ever, in April 2017. Honda CB Shine grew by an impressive 51.18 percent YoY.
The CB Shine, Honda’s 125cc bestseller, continues to dominate its arch-rival, Hero Glamour. However, in April 2017, the model has also outsold Hero’s celebrated Passion brand.
Hero’s Passion and Glamour brands stood at fifth and sixth place respectively with sales of 80,053 units and 62,713 units. While the Hero Passion continues to report a YoY decline of 19.12 percent, Hero Glamour has seen a fall too during the last month, with 6.06 percent YoY.
Climbing to the seventh spot is TVS Jupiter, which registered sales of 58,527 units in April 2017 riding high on scooter demand. TVS Jupiter’s YoY retail sale for the month of April has grown by 35.30 percent, which is commendable.
Yet another TVS Motor product, XL Super moped, has made it to the top 10 bestselling two-wheelers in April 2017. The XL Super reported sales of 57,938 units, down by 13.58 percent YoY.
Bajaj Auto’s Pulsar umbrella brand and the entry-level CT100 commuter motorcycle occupy the ninth and tenth slots in the top 10 list for April 2017. While the Pulsar sold 50,219 units, CT100 has reported sales of 45,003 units for the last month.
