INDIA SALES: Top 10 motorcycles in December 2016
Even while the popular commuters were down due to the cash crunch, Royal Enfield’s Classic 350 took up a new stance as the third bestselling motorcycle in India in December 2016.
While Hero MotoCorp’s Splendor (1,35,104 units) and HF Deluxe (85,386 units) range took the top two spots in the Top 10 motorcycles list for December 2016, the highlight was Royal Enfield’s top-selling model, Classic 350, which, for the first time ever, ranked third best-selling motorcycle model in India.
The Royal Enfield model, with its retail sales backed by a long order book, recorded a monthly volume of 38,080 units. The December 2016 sales of this midsized motorcycle model grew by 61.01 percent YoY.
At number four is the Bajaj Platina, which more than doubled sales on a year-to-year basis to 33,845 units. The model had garnered sales of 16,284 units in December 2015. The sales of the Pulsar range, on the other hand, stood flat at 32,252 units, holding fifth position in the list.
Hero MotoCorp’s 125cc bestseller Glamour was sixth with sales of 26,556 units (down by 45.52 percent YoY) and the popular Passion series ranked seventh in the list with sales of 24,672 units (down by a steep 55.76 percent YoY).
Honda’s CB Shine followed with sales of 20,213 units to remain the eighth best-selling motorcycle model for December 2016. The CB Shine’s sales declined by a sharp 60.40 percent YoY.
Yamaha’s FZ series (15,752 units; up by 31.76 percent YoY) and TVS Motor’s Apache brand (15,166 units; down by 26.38 percent YoY) bagged the ninth and tenth slots respectively.
