Exclusive! Suzuki Hayabusa sales in India hit highest level in FY2025: 511 units
Demand for the 1340cc Suzuki Hayabusa, which represents cutting-edge engineering at its very best and is one of the most popular superbikes on sale in India, jumps 71% in FY2025 to 511 units, giving it a commanding 57% share of its segment. Since FY2015, when Suzuki Motorcycle India introduced the speedster first as an import and then began assembling it locally, 2,400 Hayabusas have been sold in the country.
On April 11, 2025, Suzuki Motorcycle India launched the Model Year 2025 edition of its flagship product – the Hayabusa – which now complies with OBD-2B norms. Fittingly enough, the rollout of the new model comes on the back of the Japanese speed machine achieving its highest-ever 12-month sales in a fiscal year: 511 units in FY2025. This is a 71% year-on-year increase for Hayabusa sales in India (FY2024: 298 units).
Since Suzuki Motorcycle India began selling the Hayabusa, first as an import and then as a locally produced motorcycle from its Gurugram plant, cumulative sales of the performance bike, as pear wholesales SIAM data, are 2,400 units (see 10-year sales data table below).
The 511 units sold in FY2025 are an additional 213 units over FY2024 and constitute strong 71% YoY growth for the Suzuki Hayabusa. The 25th anniversary model (above right) launched in 2023 has an orange-and-black-based body.
Priced at Rs 16.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the MY2025 Suzuki Hayabusa is now available at all Suzuki Bike Zones in three new dual-tone colour combinations – Metallic Mat Steel Green/Glass Sparkle Black, Glass Sparkle Black/Metallic Mat Titanium Silver and Metallic Mystic Silver/Pearl Vigor Blue.
The Suzuki Hayabusa, which is one of the most popular superbikes on sale in India, is now in its third-generation model, which has been on sale in India since 2021. Underneath its striking exterior, the third-gen Hayabusa houses the 1340cc in-line, four-cylinder, fuel-injected liquid-cooled DOHC engine that delivers a broad wave of torque for effortless acceleration.
The motorcycle is equipped with Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) with traction control systems and Bi-directional quick shift systems, making this model powerful yet controllable. Contributing to greater engine durability is the lightweight design of the crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons reduces internal vibration. The exhaust note is tuned to provide a powerful roar at ignition without disturbing the rider.
Designed for high-speed performance and stability, the Hayabusa features two Suzuki Ram Air Direct (SRAD) ducts that boost performance in a linear manner as the road speed increases and Twin Swirl Combustion Chamber (TSCC) promotes faster and more efficient burning of the fuel-air mixture. The motorcycle comes equipped with KYB inverted front forks, BATTLAX HYPERSPORTS 22 tyres, and Brembo Stylema 4-piston front brake calipers, all engineered to enhance riding control and comfort.
With advanced electronics like the Power Mode Selector, Launch Control System, Bi-directional Quick Shift System, Cruise Control, and Motion Track Traction Control (TC), Hayabusa offers a customizable and confidence-inspiring ride. Additional rider-friendly features include Suzuki Easy Start System, Low RPM Assist, LED lighting, and various control systems for braking, stability, and traction.
SEGMENT-TOPPER HAYABUSA COMMANDS 57% SHARE IN FY2025
As it did in FY2024, the Suzuki Hayabusa led the 1000-1600cc motorcycle segment in FY2025 with its best-ever 12-month sales of 511 units, which gives it a 57% share of the segment and improving upon its 47% share in FY2024.
The three Triumph motorcycles – 1200cc T120, Bobber and Speedmaster, took second spot with combined sales of 208 units, up 28%, which gave them a 23% share in FY2025. While the 1252cc-engined Harley-Davidson Sportster S and Pan America 1250 Special together sold 119 units, up 11% YoY, the 998cc Kawasaki Ninjas sold 61 units, three less than they did in FY2024.As the first production motorcycle capable of breaking the 300kph barrier, the Hayabusa represents cutting-edge engineering at its very best.
THREE GENERATIONS OF FAST AND FURIOUS
The first-generation Hayabusa was introduced at Intermot in Germany in 1998, as the Hayabusa (GSX1300R) and sales started in Europe and North America in 1999. The product concept was ‘Ultimate Sport’, and its high power and handling performance, coupled with its unique and aerodynamic styling, created a sensation.
The second generation, with increased displacement from 1,299cc to 1,340cc, rolled out in 2007. It inherited the outstanding and powerful performance of the first-generation model, with a newly adopted feature, the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS), which allowed adjusting of the output characteristics by riders’ choice. Sales also expanded worldwide, launching Japanese domestic specs for the first time in 2014 and starting production and sales in India in 2016.
In 2021, the third-generation Hayabusa was introduced, with a fully improved engine and chassis, and various electronic controls. The engine and chassis parts have been fully reassessed, along with adopting the electronic control system ‘S.I.R.S (Suzuki Intelligent Ride System)’, such as traction control systems and Bi-directional quick shift systems, making this model powerful yet controllable, and embody the styling design concept, ‘The Refined Beast’.
As the first production motorcycle capable of breaking the 300kph barrier, the Hayabusa represents cutting-edge engineering at its very best. In the years since the first-generation Hayabusa took the motorcycling world by storm, faster machines have been manufactured, but the Hayabusa’s iconic stature and distinctive styling continue to have a strong fan following the world over, including India and strong sales too.
