FY2025 has turned out to be quite a record-setting year for Nexa, Maruti Suzuki India’s premium sales channel. Not only has Nexa surpassed 500,000 passenger vehicle sales for the second fiscal year in a row (FY2025: 543,050 units, down 3% on FY2024: 561,050 units), it has also clocked the best UV sales (340,049 UVs, up 5% on FY2024’s 322.643 UVs) and also driven past the cumulative 1-million wholesales mark (10,06,480 units).
As they did for Maruti Suzuki’s overall passenger vehicle sales in FY2025, utility vehicles (UVs) were the dominating force. Despite achieving a fiscal year high of 1.76 million units, India’s passenger vehicle market leader saw flat sales (0% YoY increase) after three years of growth. Strong sales of its SUVs, particularly premium Nexa models, helped buffer the 8% decline in hatchbacks and the sole sedan. As a result, the UV share of Maruti Suzuki’s passenger vehicles has risen to a record level of 41 percent.
Baleno-based Fronx compact SUV, with 166,216 units and strong 23% YoY growth, missed out on being the No. 1 Nexa model in FY2025 by just 945 units. The Baleno remains the topper with 167,161 units, albeit down 15% YoY.
Nexa’s first model was the now-discontinued S-Cross, launched in August 2015. The current Nexa model line-up comprises eight passenger vehicles – two hatchbacks (Baleno, Ignis), one sedan (Ciaz), three SUVs (Fronx, Grand Vitara and Jimny) and two MPVs (XL6 and Invicto).
FY2025 did not see any new Nexa vehicle launch as compared to FY2024 which saw the rollout of the Fronx, Jimny and Invicto. Wholesales stats of the eight Nexa models currently on sale reveal that other than the Fronx compact SUV and the Grand Vitara midsize SUV, all the other six models saw a YoY sales decline in FY2025.
The Fronx compact SUv recently raced past 300,000 sales in a little less than 2 years to become the first Nexa-branded SUV to achieve this milestone.
MARUTI FRONX IS BEST-SELLING NEXA SUV TO DATE
The Baleno-based Fronx compact SUV came very close to being Nexa No. 1 in FY2025 – the Fronx's strong 23% YoY growth meant that its 166,216 units were just 945 units behind the Baleno (167,161, down 14% YoY. In the process, the Fronx’s cumulative sales since its April 2023 launch hit 300,951 units to make it the first Nexa SUV to achieve 300,000 sales.
Currently just 3,249 units behind the Ignis in cumulative sales, and witnessing much faster growth, the Fronx will have vaulted into Nexa Model No. 2 position (after the Baleno’s cumulative 1.6 million units) in April 2025 itself. The Fronx’s share of total Nexa UV sales is 30 percent.
The Grand Vitara midsize SUV with 123,946 units in FY2025, which is a marginal 2% YoY increase (FY2024: 121,169 units) and just 2,777 units more year on year, has registered total sales of 296,430 units since its launch three fiscals ago and has, earlier this month, become the second Nexa SUV to hit 300,000 sales. The Grand Vitara’s share of the one-million-plus Nexa UV sales is 29 percent.
The XL6 MPV is ranked third with a total of 205,704 units sold since FY2020. In FY2025, the XL6 sold 37,111 units, down 18% YoY (FY2024: 45,131 units). The XL6, which is in its sixth year of sales, has a 20% share of Nexa UV sales to date. The XL6 posted its best-ever annual sales in FY2024: 45,131 units.
The now-discontinued S-Cross with 169,011 units is Nexa UV No. 4 in terms of volume, and is followed by the Jimny SUV which has clocked cumulative sales of 25,749 units over two fiscals. In FY2025, the Jimny sold 4,036 units, down 12% YoY (FY2024: 4,599 units). far less than what Maruti Suzuki had targeted. However, the Jimny has been a huge success on the export front in FY2025 and, along with the Fronx, has helped Maruti Suzuki retain the title of India’s No. 1 car and SUV exporter for the fourth fiscal in a row.
The Invicto MPV, which is produced by Toyota Kirloskar Motor for Maruti Suzuki under the global Suzuki-Toyota alliance, sold 4,036 units in FY2025, down 12% YoY (FY2024: 4,599 units) to be the last of the Nexa UVs in the pecking order. The Invicto is the youngest Nexa model, which was launched in July 2023 to tap the potential of the over Rs-20-lakh vehicle category in India. However, sales have been slow and far below the company’s expectations. The Invicto has sold a total of 8,635 units till end-FY2025. The Maruti e Vitara is slated to be launched in May 2025.
The Maruti e Vitara is slated to be launched very soon.
