Ola Electric Clarifies February 2025 Sales Figures Amid Media Reports

Ola Electric Mobility Limited has clarified that its February 2025 sales figures were based on confirmed and paid customer orders, not preliminary bookings, addressing concerns raised in recent media reports.

The company stated that nearly 90% of these orders were fully paid at the time of placement, including those for its new Gen 3 and Roadster X models. These vehicles were available for full purchase—not just pre-booking—during the month in question.

Ola Electric explained that the routine vehicle registration process, typically visible on the VAHAN portal, was temporarily disrupted in February due to an internal transition aimed at bringing the registration process in-house as part of an efficiency initiative. As a result, the company disclosed its sales data based on paid orders rather than relying on VAHAN registration figures.

The clarification follows media articles suggesting that Ola Electric’s February sales included models that were not yet rolled out. In response, the company emphasized that the figures reflect genuine customer demand backed by financial commitment and not token-amount reservations.

"Vehicle deliveries are sequenced to follow confirmed orders with full payment—a standard and universally accepted industry practice," the company said. Ola Electric also noted that it only recognizes revenue upon the completion of both registration and delivery of the vehicles.

The company urged stakeholders and media outlets to avoid spreading unverified claims, stating that its tech-enabled, direct-to-consumer sales model may differ from traditional automotive practices, which could be contributing to misunderstandings.

In March, Ola Electric has accused certain media outlets and vested interests of orchestrating a smear campaign against the company and denied that the company was embroiled in any legal or regulatory proceedings related to the difference between its reported February sales and the number of registrations on the Vahan portal.

It, however, acknowledged that the central government had sought information about the discrepancy in numbers.

In a statement, the company referred to news articles published on March 20, 2025, by *Business Standard* and other mainstream media outlets captioned "Ola Electric Under Govt Scanner Over Sales, Registration Discrepancies." 

The reports cited inquiries from the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) on March 11, 2025, and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) on March 18, 2025 on the gap between the company’s reported sales figures and the number of vehicle registrations recorded on the VAHAN portal.

Reiterating its stand taken in a February press release, the company attributed the gap to a temporary backlog in vehicle registrations caused by operational changes involving its vendors.
