Mobec launches recycling and Circular Economy initiatives to support sustainable mobility

Mobec, a provider of EV charging solutions, has announced new initiatives focused on recycling and circular economy practices to support a cleaner, more resource-efficient future. Aligned with the Government of India’s sustainable mobility goals for 2030, Mobec’s program targets challenges related to battery waste and resource dependency through Battery Second Life refurbishment, Black Mass production, and sustainable energy storage systems. This approach aims to support India’s broader environmental objectives and set new standards within the industry.

Current battery disposal methods and reliance on raw material extraction have led to rising environmental costs and resource scarcity. Mobec’s recycling initiatives aim to create a closed-loop system for battery materials, reducing reliance on mining and extending battery life cycles.

One key aspect of Mobec's strategy is its Battery Second Life and Refurbishment program, which reprocesses used batteries with diminished power output to optimize their potential in secondary applications. By refurbishing and reselling these batteries, Mobec helps reduce the demand for new battery production, which may, in turn, make EV technology more affordable and accessible.

Another core initiative is Black Mass Production, a process involving the dismantling of batteries to recover valuable metals, such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel, for new battery production. Mobec plans to use these recycled materials internally or distribute them to other companies, promoting collaboration in sustainability efforts and reducing overall resource waste.

Mobec’s circular economy approach also emphasizes resource conservation and reduced dependence on newly mined materials. By focusing on reuse and recycling, Mobec aims to reduce the demand for raw materials that would otherwise require environmentally intensive mining. With each repurposed or recycled battery, Mobec supports a more sustainable ecosystem and aims to lessen its environmental impact.

In addition to its recycling efforts, Mobec has introduced Energy Storage Systems (ESS) designed to store energy from renewable sources. These ESS units are adaptable across various applications, from EVs to electronic devices, lighting, and grid storage, and support energy efficiency in multiple sectors. This technology contributes to balancing supply and demand for clean energy, helping ensure availability where it’s most needed.
