LANXESS Introduces Vulkanox HS Scopeblue for Sustainable Tire Production
LANXESS has launched Vulkanox HS Scopeblue, a rubber additive made with 55 percent sustainable raw materials. It offers a lower carbon footprint and can be integrated into existing tire manufacturing processes without modifications.
Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has introduced Vulkanox HS Scopeblue, a rubber additive aimed at enhancing the durability and sustainability of tires. The new product is a variant of the established antioxidant Vulkanox HS (TMQ) and is designed to protect tires from oxidative and thermal degradation while maintaining low volatility and minimal migration.
Vulkanox HS Scopeblue is produced using 55 percent sustainable raw materials, resulting in a carbon footprint that is more than 30 percent lower than that of conventionally manufactured alternatives. The reduction is achieved through the use of biocircular acetone and renewable energy during production. Manufactured at an ISCC PLUS-certified facility in Germany, the product retains the same chemical structure as its predecessor, allowing tire manufacturers to integrate it into existing production processes without modifications.
LANXESS markets Vulkanox HS Scopeblue under its Scopeblue label, which identifies products with a lower carbon footprint or a higher proportion of circular raw materials. Dr. Holger Graf, head of the Functional Tire Additives business line at the LANXESS Rhein Chemie business unit, stated that the new antioxidant supports manufacturers in producing longer-lasting tires while contributing to more sustainable production practices.
