JSW MG Motor India reports 256% growth with strong EV sales in January
JSW MG Motor India saw a 256% rise in sales in January, largely due to increased demand for electric vehicles and planned new model launches.
JSW MG Motor India recorded sales of 4,455 units in January 2025, marking a 256% increase compared to the same period last year. Electric vehicles dominated the company's sales, with the MG Windsor, Comet, and ZS EV models accounting for more than 70% of total units sold.
The company plans to expand its New Energy Vehicle (NEV) lineup with two upcoming launches: the MG Cyberster and MG M9, which will be marketed under the company's luxury brand channel, MG Select.
JSW MG Motor India's performance reflects the growing adoption of electric vehicles in the Indian market. The company has positioned itself in the electric vehicle segment through a diverse portfolio that caters to different market segments.
The acquisition of a stake in MG Motor's India business by JSW Group marks a major shift in the company's ownership structure. This transition has maintained MG's focus on electric mobility while leveraging JSW's industrial expertise in the Indian market.
MG Motor entered the Indian market in 2019 with the launch of the Hector SUV and has since expanded its presence in the electric vehicle segment. The company's emphasis on electric vehicles aligns with India's push toward electric mobility and reduced carbon emissions in the transportation sector.
The current sales figures indicate a shift in consumer preferences toward electric vehicles in India. The company's growth trajectory also reflects the broader industry trend of increasing electric vehicle adoption in the Indian automotive market.
