The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) highlighted advanced space technologies with potential applications in the automotive sector, aiming to foster innovation and self-reliance in India’s automotive industry.

At the expo, ISRO’s stall featured 43 advanced technologies, including imaging sensors, pressure sensors, gyroscopes, accelerometers, noise suppression systems, specialized coatings, and insulation technologies. These innovations are intended to reduce the automotive sector’s reliance on imported technologies and contribute to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. By leveraging these space-grade technologies, ISRO and IN-SPACe aim to enhance the safety, performance, and sustainability of automotive vehicles.

IN-SPACe and the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) hosted a session on January 20, 2025, titled “ISRO Technologies for Automotive Sector.” The session included presentations by experts from ISRO centers, including the Space Applications Centre, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, ISRO Inertial Systems Unit, and the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre. These experts explored how space technologies can be adapted for use in automotive applications, with a focus on initiating collaborative pilot projects between research institutions and the automotive industry.

Dr. Rajeev Jyoti, Director of Technical Directorate at IN-SPACe, emphasized the importance of working with the automotive sector to facilitate the transfer of ISRO’s technologies for local adaptation. He noted that the initiative aims to foster greater self-reliance by promoting the domestic development and manufacturing of advanced components like sensors, which are vital to modern automotive systems.

The participation of ISRO and IN-SPACe at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 reflects the Indian government’s commitment to cross-sector collaboration, enabling the automotive industry to benefit from space-grade technologies and achieve significant advancements in safety, performance, and sustainability.
