Henkel Expands Electronics Footprint in India with New Engineering Center and Manufacturing Facility
Company enhances regional capabilities through Chennai Application Engineering Center and Kurkumbh manufacturing plant to support India's growing electronics sector and improve supply chain efficiency.
Henkel has unveiled a new Application Engineering Center in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, as part of its strategic expansion in India's electronics sector. The company also announced plans to establish a dedicated adhesive materials manufacturing facility for electronics at its multi-technology site in Kurkumbh, near Pune.
The 17,000-square-foot Chennai facility houses five specialised laboratories equipped with advanced technologies for adhesive solutions and thermal management materials. These capabilities are designed to support the development of components for smartphones, wearables, and other consumer electronics products. The center aims to accelerate new product introductions and reduce time-to-market for customers in the region.
The Chennai center complements Henkel's existing global innovation network, which includes facilities in Germany, the United States, China, Singapore, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.
The new manufacturing plant in Kurkumbh will leverage industry 4.0 smart factory systems to enhance operational efficiency and product quality. This expansion positions Henkel to better support India's electronics industry, which is experiencing growth driven by government initiatives such as Make in India and Production-Linked Incentive schemes.
Henkel India operates as a subsidiary of Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, a global company with headquarters in Germany. The company established its presence in the Indian market several decades ago and has since developed a significant footprint across multiple business sectors, primarily focusing on adhesive technologies, beauty care, and laundry & home care products.
In the adhesive technologies segment, Henkel India serves various industries including automotive, electronics, packaging, and general manufacturing. Its portfolio encompasses industrial adhesives, sealants, surface treatments, and functional coatings under brands such as Loctite and Technomelt.
The company maintains manufacturing facilities in strategic locations across India, including its multi-technology site in Kurkumbh near Pune, and has recently expanded with a new Application Engineering Center in Chennai focused on electronics applications.
Henkel India has aligned its business strategy with government initiatives such as "Make in India," emphasising local manufacturing, innovation, and supply chain resilience. The company employs a substantial workforce across its operations, including manufacturing, research and development, sales, and corporate functions.
