Bharat Forge and VEDA Aeronautics Collaborate to Develop Unmanned Aerial Systems for Defense
The collaboration focuses on developing UAVs and high-speed aerial weapon systems, with Bharat Forge supplying indigenous jet engines. The partnership supports India's defense manufacturing capabilities under the Make in India initiative.
Bharat Forge Ltd (BFL) and VEDA Aeronautics (P) Ltd (VEDA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and high-speed aerial weapon systems. The partnership is aimed at supporting India’s Make in India initiative by enhancing domestic defense manufacturing capabilities.
Under the agreement, Bharat Forge will supply micro jet engines to power the unmanned systems developed by VEDA. The company plans to focus on the indigenous development of jet engines with thrust capacities of up to 400 kgf. Its 40 kgf and 45 kgf engines, which are already in serial production, will be integrated into VEDA’s defense projects.
According to Bharat Forge’s Aerospace Division CEO, Guru Biswal, the collaboration reflects a commitment to advancing indigenous defense technologies. He stated that the partnership will contribute to the evolving technological landscape of modern warfare. VEDA Aeronautics’ Managing Director, Dipesh Gupta, described the agreement as a step toward enhancing UAV systems, high-speed aerial targets, and jet-based UAV platforms.
