Mercedes-Benz India has launched the S-Class at Rs 1.33 crore for the S 350 D and Rs 1.37 crore for the S 450 petrol. Seen here is Roland Folger, MD and CEO.

Mercedes-Benz India today launched the enhanced version of its flagship product, Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The new S-Class 350 D is India’s first locally produced, BS VI-compliant vehicle with a state-of-the-art diesel engine that meets BS VI emission norms, two years ahead of the regulation.

While the S350 D costs Rs 1.33 crore, the S 450 petrol is priced at Rs 1.37 crore. Till now, a total of 7,600 S-class sedans have been sold in India since it was first launched in the year 2000.

The carmaker says the engine is capable of running on currently available BS IV fuel. Technological measures used in the new S 350 d leads to a reduction of emissions significantly, while introducing the most powerful diesel engine in Mercedes-Benz India’s history.

BS VI standards are far-reaching in scope and incorporate substantial changes to existing Bharat Stage IV emission standards. Of particular note is the tightening of Particulate Matter (PM) and NOx mass emission limits. In a BS VI vehicle the NOx limit reduction is up to 68 per cent and PM limit reduction is achieved at 82 per cent, compared with BS IV.

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class also features a raft of changes, both externally and internally, that reinforces its status as the benchmark among all flagship sedans. These include the latest generation of radar-based driving assistance systems that reduce the risk of accidents and enhance the protection of occupants as well as other road users. It also comes with enhanced comfort options via the class-leading Rear Seat Comfort Package and high luxury, technology and entertainment system packages that enriches the passenger experience.

This time round, it is not just intelligent, but also responsible luxury. By launching the first ever ‘Made in India, for India’ BS VI car, we have set a benchmark among all car manufacturers to support the Government in mitigating the rising pollution levels in the country. The new S-Class brings together luxury, design and technology that meet the highest standards of perfection, surpassing expectations for a vehicle of this class.”

“The new S-Class is also a highly intelligent automobile and is available with a host of features and highlights that uses the cutting edge technology, thus enhancing its driving appeal as well as the passenger experience; while being uncompromising on safety. With the introduction of the new diesel S350 D and the petrol S 450, we are presenting our Indian customers the finest of offerings from our formidable product line-up and reinforce our motto of ‘The Best Keeps Leading’ for 2018,” Folger further added.
