GM India recalls 101,597 Chevrolet Beat diesels to replace clutch pedal lever

General Motors India is to recall 101,597 units of the Chevrolet Beat Diesel manufactured between December 2010 and July 2014 to inspect and if necessary, replace the clutch pedal lever in the vehicles.

The company has started voluntarily notifying owners of the Beat Diesel to take their cars to any of Chevrolet’s 248 authorized service centres across India. The clutch pedal lever in these units is susceptible to cracking on continued usage.

“Quality and care are our highest priorities and we are committed to putting customers at the center of everything we do. If we foresee a potential issue, we ensure that it is corrected as soon as possible, as part of our complete commitment to customer satisfaction,” General Motors India said in a statement.

Alternatively, customers can also contact their nearest Chevrolet dealership and schedule an appointment for vehicle inspection and correction. The affected vehicles will be repaired free of charge at Chevrolet’s authorized service centers across the country.

This is the second recall by GM India in the year 2015. Earlier in July, the automaker had recalled 155,000 units of the Spark and Beat hatchbacks and the Enjoy MPV to replace faulty remote keyless entry accessory.

Between July 2012, when the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers' (SIAM) Voluntary Code on Vehicle Recall came into effect, GM India has recalled a total of 3,70,597 vehicles, the second highest behind Honda Cars India, which recently recalled City and Mobilio diesels to replace fuel return pipes.

The total recalls by Indian vehicle manufacturers now stand at 19,48,880 units.
