Eicher Polaris today inaugurated its first outlet in the national capital to cater to sales of its Multix personal utility vehicle in the city.

The 3S facility, Setco Auto, has been opened in the south Ganesh Nagar area of east Delhi and will offer the BS IV-compliant Multix at Rs 319,000 for the AX+ (no-door) variant and Rs 349,000 for the MX variant (both prices ex-showroom, India).

The Multix is a completely indigenously developed vehicle with a fully independent suspension at all four wheels, Polaris’s patented scratch- and dent-resistant Flexituff body panels and the provision of a PTO at the rear, which could be used for electricity generation, as well as to carry out other farm-related purposes like pumping water.

According to Pankaj Dubey, CEO and wholetime director, Eicher Polaris, “The Multix has been aimed at independent small businessmen, empowering them with an extremely versatile vehicle, which offers the flexibility of fulfilling their work, as well as family requirements in a cost effective way.”

The Multix is being manufactured at the company’s Jaipur facility, which has an annual capacity of 60,000 units and scalable to 120,000 units.

The utility product, which can be registered as either a private or a commercial vehicle, comes powered by a 650cc Greaves-sourced single-cylinder diesel engine, rated to offer 28.45kpl fuel efficiency. The motor also offers a unique ‘X-Port’ in Polaris’ speak, which can be utilised to draw up to 3KW of electricity, by spending around 0.75 litres of fuel per hour.

Introduced in mid-2015, Eicher Polaris says the Multix has garnered strong response from the southern and western parts of the country. The vehicle is on sale in over 70 cities across 17 states in India. Around 80 percent of Multix customers have been deploying it to be a part of their micro-business activities. The company says it has ensuring efficient aftersales facilities through its all-India support partnership with MyTVS, as well as also providing servicing at its dealerships.

Eicher Polaris now aims to increase the penetration of the product into Tier 1 markets and plans to establish new dealerships in the near future. While it recently opened one in Ballabhgarh, near Faridabad, the next ones are slated to come up in Thane and Karad, in Maharashtra within a few months.

Targeting export markets

The Multix is also being exported and some units have been shipped to Nepal. A new showroom in Kathmandu is also in the pipeline and will be inaugurated on July 1. Eicher Polaris will also exploring catering to Bangladesh, Africa and even the US market.
