Porsche reveals Macan GTS at Tokyo Motor Show

The Porsche Macan GTS has been revealed, with the new version of the small SUV getting visual and chassis upgrades to go with a boost in power.

The new addition to the Macan range means that all of Porsche’s mainstream models now come with a GTS. The new version slots into the line-up between the Macan S and Turbo.

It uses the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine as the Macan S, but it has been reworked to increase power by 20bhp from 335bhp to 355bhp, while torque has been boosted to 369lb ft.

Alongside the engine tweaks, the GTS comes with Porsche’s PDK seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters and the Porsche Traction Management system that splits the power distribution to the four wheels as required. The brakes have been upgraded to deal with the extra power, while carbon-ceramic versions are available as an option.

It also comes with Porsche’s Active Suspension Management system as standard, but this has been tweaked to offer a ride height that sits 15mm lower than standard. It also comes with a sports exhaust as standard, allowing the driver to open valves to give a more sonorous note under acceleration.

The result of all these additions is an improvement in performance over the Macan S, with a top speed of 160mph and 0-62mph coming in 5.2sec, or 5.0sec when the GTS is equipped with the Sport Chrono package, which is a £729 option. This package brings upgrades suchas revised throttle mapping, a different transmission shift program and a different engagement point for the traction control system, allowing a greater degree of slip before it kicks in.

These increases in performance have had a slight impact on fuel economy, which drops by 0.7mpg to 31.4mpg combined, while CO2 emissions are up to 212g/km from 207g/km in the Macan S.

Visual upgrades include standard-fit 20in matt black alloy wheels and gloss black details on the upper areas of the exterior, while inside it gets GTS-badged sports seats and further GTS badging throughout the cabin. The GTS is also available with an electrically operated tailgate, and LED lights are available as an option for the first time on the Macan range. The red paint pictured is unique to the GTS, as with other GTS models in Porsche’s range.

The Macan GTS is available to order now, with prices starting at £55,188. First deliveries are expected to start in the new year.
