INDIA SALES: Top 10 Two-wheelers in October 2016
Hero Splendor outsells Honda Activa by a thin margin after 9 months, TVS Motor’s moped leapfrogs to fourth spot in October 2016.
Hero MotoCorp’s bestselling motorcycle brand – Splendor – has finally grabbed the top spot outselling Honda Activa in the festive month of October 2016.
This, even as the Honda Activa continued to sell as the bestselling two-wheeler for nine long months in the domestic market.
Last month (October 2016) saw the Hero Splendor record total sales of 254,813 units, up 7.71 percent YoY (October 2015: 236,564 units).
Meanwhile, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) reported sales of 250,681 units under its Activa brand. The Activa, which now ranks as the No. 2 best-selling two-wheeler as per October data, registered a YoY growth of 5.52 percent (October 2015: 237,563).
At No. 3 is the HF Deluxe which continues to be a steady performer for Hero MotoCorp. The 97.2cc HF Deluxe sold 133,986 units in October 2016, up 24.88 percent YoY.
Emerging as the fourth top-performing commuter, TVS Motor’s moped XL Super sold 87,746 units last month, which helped this model take a big leap from ninth position as of October 2015. The XL Super recorded a YoY growth of 33.50 percent.

At No. 5 is Hero’s Passion brand, which clocked sales of 87,489 units last month as against sales of 95,883 units recorded in October 2015. The Passion brand of commuter motorcycles, whose October 2016 numbers declined by 8.75 percent YoY, continues to witness a drop in its sales. In October 2015, the Hero Passion was at fourth spot, which means it has ceded position last month.

Honda’s 125cc bestseller CB Shine continues to outsell Hero’s Glamour in its segment at sixth position. The Honda CB Shine garnered total sales of 82,753 units last month, down by 8.22 percent. (October 2015: 90,168 units).
Taking seventh place in the Top 10 list with sales of 75,320 units in October 2016 is the Hero Glamour. The well-performing 125cc Glamour brand saw a YoY growth of 20.55 percent and has jumped three positions; it was tenth in the October 2015 Top 10 list.

Bajaj Auto’s Pulsar range of motorcycles and TVS Motor’s Jupiter scooter model(s) garnered almost similar sales during October. While the Bajaj Pulsar recorded sales of 63,287 units (down 10.38 percent) to take the eighth rank, the TVS Jupiter went home to 63,014 new buyers (up 2.72 percent) to occupy the penultimate position in the list.
Selling 50,531 units in October 2016, the Bajaj Platina wraps up the Top 10 best-selling two-wheelers’ list for the month. With a sudden spurt in its sales, the Bajaj Platina, which recorded impressive YoY growth of 59.65 percent, turned out to be a surprise entry in the list and replaces the Bajaj CT in the list.
